The Department of Justice on Wednesday announced charges against an Alabama man in connection with a February explosion outside the office of the Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall.

Kyle Benjamin Douglas Calvert faces charges of malicious use of an explosive and possession of an unregistered destructive device, the DOJ stated in a press release. The explosion occurred on Feb. 24 and did not result in any injuries or significant damage.

Calvert faces between five and 20 years in prison, if convicted.

"Thanks to the work of the FBI and our state and local law enforcement partners, this defendant is being held accountable for allegedly detonating an explosive device outside of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office. The Justice Department has no tolerance for acts of violence targeting those who serve the public," Attorney General Merrick Garland said.

A U.S. attorney's office wrote in a detention memo on Wednesday that authorities had found he posted stickers "advocating for various political ideologies" and had endorsed the "belief that violence should be directed against the government, and he has described his inability to control his own violent, aggressive impulses," NBC News reported.
