Ex-Trump lawyer urges Congress to look into how Jack Smith handled Mar-a-Lago classified docs case
Tim Parlatore said that the case showed a lot of systemic issues in the Department of Justice.
Former Trump lawyer Tim Parlatore urged Congress on Monday to look into how special counsel Jack Smith conducted the classified documents case at Mar-a-Lago.
"I think that is something that's very important for Congress ... I think first they are going to find all of this stuff about the document handling procedures in the White House that need to be reformed," Parlatore said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show.
In 2022, Smith brought a case accusing Trump of improperly taking classified documents back to his estate Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
Last month, Smith ended the case against the president-elect. There is some ongoing debate about whether or not Smith's appointment for the case was unconstitutional.
"Nobody accused him [Trump] of taking these documents knowingly out of the White House," Parlatore said. "These were all document handling procedures that needed to be reformed. Congress needs to get involved in that."
He later said that the case was "symptomatic" of bigger issues in the Department of Justice.
