Judge delays Willis's deposition in divorce case for prosecutor she had personal relationship with
Fani Willis is the Fulton County district attorney leading a case alleging 2020 election interference by then-President Trump and codefendents
A Georgia judge on Monday paused a scheduled deposition for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in divorce proceedings involving the outside prosecutor in the 2020 election interference case against former President Trump and with whom she allegedly had a romantic relationship.
Special outside prosecutor Nathan Wade’s divorce was recently made public by Trump codefendant Michael Roman in Willis's case, arguing the alleged Wade-Willis relationship raises ethics concern and moreover makes the district attorney’s office’s sweeping racketeering indictment “fatally defective,” according to The Hill newspaper.
An awyer for Wade’s estranged wife argued Monday that Willis, a Democrat, has “unique knowledge” about Wade’s marriage and that her position as district attorney shouldn’t protect her.
Willis was subpoenaed earlier this month in the case, which began in 2021.
Willis’s lawyer, says any knowledge Willis had could also be provided by Wade.
“You’ve got two partners in the case, one who is alleged to have some extramarital affair with Ms. Willis,” argues Axam argued, also according to The Hill. “If that is the case – if that is true, [Wade] has that information.”
In court filings last week, Wade’s wife provided documents, including bank statements, multiple flights for Wade and Willis in the months before they charged Trump and 18 others with attempting to subvert the state’s 2020 election results.
