Manafort being released from prison amid coronavirus, report
Manafort's lawyers asked that their client be released, citing his age and pre-existing health conditions
Former Trump presidential campaign manager Paul Manafort has reportedly been released from prison amid the coronavirus.
Manafort’s lawyers in past weeks have requested that their client be allowed to serve his sentence under home confinement, citing his age and pre-existing medical conditions, two factors that put him at higher risk for contracting the highly virus.
A Manafort lawyer has declined to comment and the Bureau of Prisons has yet to respond, according to ABC News, which reported on Manafort’s purported release, based on sources.
The 71-year-old Manafort is serving a 7-plus-year sentence in a central Pennsylvania corrections facility on charges related to special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe.
Manafort was found guilty of tax fraud and conspiracy and sentenced in March 2019. His charges are related to his consulting/lobbying work related to Ukraine from 2006 to 2015.
