Authorities on Monday charged alleged Paul Pelosi attacker, David DePape, with attempted kidnapping and assaulting a family member of a public official in retaliation for their official performance.

He faces a prospective 30 years in prison on the assault charge and 20 if convicted for attempted kidnapping, per NBC News.

DePape allegedly entered the Pelosi household in San Francisco last week seeking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Authorities explained that a 911 dispatcher interpreted Paul Pelosi speaking through "code" and informed law enforcement, who reportedly witnessed a violent exchange between DePape and Pelosi.

While Democrats and media figures were quick to blame either former President Donald Trump or Republicans for the incident, an ex of DePape's has cast doubt on that conclusion, asserting that he "has been mentally ill for a long time" and "was very much in alignment with my [left-wing] views."
