Paul Pelosi charged with hit-and-run for allegedly leaving scene of Napa Valley accident
The accident in connection to which the 86-year-old Pelosi is being charged occurred July 3.
The husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run accident earlier this month Napa County, California, earlier this month, according to authorities.
Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley said Friday that Paul Pelosi has been charged with a misdemeanor hit-and-run and the infraction of making an unlawful turn in connection with the July 3 crash in Yountville.
Prosecutors alleged that the 86-year-old Pelosi crashed his brown Maserati GranCabrio into an unoccupied parked vehicle, then fled the scene without providing information as required by law, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Haley's office noted that there was no evidence that Pelosi was driving under the influence at the time of the crash. He previously pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence in Napa County in 2022.
He was sentenced for the DWI to five days in prison and three years of probation and was prohibited from operate a vehicle without an ignition interlock device, which requires drivers to provide a breath sample to prove sobriety before the engine will start.
He was additionally required to enroll in a DUI program for three months and pay $5,000 in restitution to the victim.
Pelosi, whose wife is a California Democratic congresswoman, is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 14 for the July accident. The maximum probation sentence in California for hit-and-run is one year.
