Prosecutors recommend DOJ bring criminal charges against Boeing: Sources
The Justice Department has until July 7 to decide whether to prosecute Boeing.
U.S. prosecutors have recommended that the Department of Justice bring criminal charges against Boeing for violating a settlement related to two fatal crashes, according to Reuters sources on Sunday.
The Justice Department has until July 7 to decide whether to prosecute Boeing.
In May, "officials had determined the company breached a 2021 agreement that had shielded Boeing from a criminal charge of conspiracy to commit fraud arising from two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019 involving the 737 MAX jet," according to a Reuters report.
In 2021, the Justice Department said it decided not to prosecute Boeing over allegations it defrauded the Federal Aviation Administration’s Aircraft Evaluation Group (FAA AEG) "in connection with the FAA AEG’s evaluation of Boeing’s 737 MAX airplane." The company paid $2.5 billion to settle the investigation.
