'QAnon Shaman' Jacob Chansley released from prison early to halfway house

He was released after serving just under 27 months behind bars, but Chansley's attorney, Bill Shipley, said he is "out on schedule."

Jacob Chansley, the so-called "QAnon Shaman" who became famous for entering the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot shirtless in a furry horned hat, was released from prison early and sent to a halfway house, prison officials said Thursday.

Chansley, 35, was sentenced in November 2021 to 41 months in prison, but he has been in custody since Jan. 9, 2021.

He was released after serving just under 27 months behind bars, but Chansley's attorney, Bill Shipley, said Thursday he is "out on schedule."

Shipley said Chansley "took advantage" of programs that allowed him to earn credit on his sentence. He also said the Jan. 6 footage aired by Fox News host Tucker Carlson showing Capitol Police apparently escorting Chansley did not play a role in his release.

Chansley is currently in a reentry home in Phoenix, Arizona, and his release date, per the Bureau of Prisons website, is May 25.
