Supreme Court dismisses Louisiana's appeal, paving way for new congressional map

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed an appeal from Louisiana, paving the way for the state to redraw its congressional map to add another majority-black district.
The decision, issued in a brief unsigned order, was unexpected after the high court struck down Alabama's congressional map earlier this month.
In that ruling, the court stated that the southern state's map likely violated part of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and that the state must draw a second majority-black district.
