The Supreme Court on Friday declined to block the United States Military Academy's consideration of race in its admissions process while a challenge proceeds through the lower courts.

Students for Fair Admissions last month asked the court to intervene after a lower court also declined to halt the practice. The Supreme Court response on Friday asserted that "[t]he record before this Court is underdeveloped," Politico reported.

SFFA President Edward Blum lamented the decision saying, "[i]t is disappointing that the young men and women who apply to West Point for the foreseeable future will have their race used as a factor to admit or reject them. Every year this case languishes in discovery, trial and appeals means that our nation’s best and brightest young men and women will be classified, sorted, and preferred based on their skin color rather than just on their abilities."

That case set precedent the organization cited in its current challenge.
