Supreme Court will not review Michael Avenatti conviction in Nike extortion case
Avenatti has been convicted of three federal charges for trying to extort the sporting giant of millions of dollars.
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a bid from disgraced attorney Michael Avenatti to overturn his conviction in the Nike extortion case.
Avenatti was convicted of three federal charges for trying to extort the sporting giant of $25 million, according to CBS News. He first achieved recognition while representing Stormy Daniels, a porn star with whom former President Donald Trump allegedly had a relationship.
In 2022, a jury separately convicted him of stealing roughly $300,000 of Daniels' money owed in connection with a tell-all book she wrote about her alleged interaction with the 45th president.
Avenatti had no criminal history prior to his rise to fame as Daniels' lawyer. He is currently being held at a federal corrections facility in California.
