Timberlake pleads guilty to impaired driving in New York in connection to June arrest in Hamptons
Timberlake entered a new plea in a Sag Harbor Village Court.
Singer-entertainer Justin Timberlake pleaded guilty Friday in a Long Island, N.Y., courtroom to driving while impaired in connection with his arrest in June in the region's Hamptons community on a driving-related charge.
Timberlake entered a new plea in a Sag Harbor Village Court.
He originally pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated and had his driver’s license suspended during a hearing last month.
The judge sentenced Timberlake to a $500 fine with a $260 surcharge, 25 hours of community service and required him to make a public-safety announcement on the dangers of impaired driving, according to the Associated Press.
In the brief court proceedings, Timberlake gave a statement in which he expressed remorse for his actions.
“I should’ve had better judgment,” he said to the judge. “I understand the seriousness of this.”
Outside of the courtroom, he told the news media and other onlookers: “I try to hold myself to a very high standard, and this was not that."
The 43-year-old Timberlake was arrested a little after midnight on June 18 after police said he ran a stop sign in the village center, veered out of his lane and got out of his BMW smelling of alcohol.
Timberlake has repeatedly said he had only one martini, the wire service also reports.
