Trump calls for judge who tried to stop deportation flights to be impeached
Trump referred to Judge James Boasberg as an "agitator" and a "troublemaker."
President Donald Trump on Tuesday called for the judge who attempted to stop deportation flights of Venezuelan illegal migrants to be impeached.
“FIGHTING ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION MAY HAVE BEEN THE NUMBER ONE REASON FOR THIS HISTORIC VICTORY,” Trump wrote on TRUTH Social, apparently referencing his 2024 reelection win. “I’m just doing what the VOTERS wanted me to do.”
"This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges’ I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!!" his post continued. "WE DON’T WANT VICIOUS, VIOLENT, AND DEMENTED CRIMINALS, MANY OF THEM DERANGED MURDERERS, IN OUR COUNTRY. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"
Over the weekend, U.S. District Judge James Boasberg issued an order temporarily blocking the administration from using the 1789 Alien Enemies Act, which grants authority to deport illegal migrants without them having the opportunity to go before an immigration or federal court judge.
However, the flights were in the air at the time of the ruling. Lawyers told Boasberg on Saturday before he made the ruling that two planes with immigrants were in the air – one headed for El Salvador and the other to Honduras.
Boasberg held a hearing Monday on whether the Trump administration has the legal authority to deport alleged gang members and gave the Trump Justice Department until noon Tuesday to provide answers about the flight and their passenger list before he makes any ruling about the legality of the weekend flights and what will happen going forward.
A lawsuit was filed by the Democracy Forward and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) that was brought before the judge that said Trump didn't have the right to invoke the Alien Enemies Act because the U.S. was not at war, according to the Politico news outlet.
Boasberg was appointed nearly 15 years ago to the bench by former President Barack Obama.
