Virginia student sue school district over transgender policies, citing safety, religious protections

An northern Virginia high school senior is suing her school district over its transgender policies, arguing they put her safety as risk and violate the constitutional protections of her religious belief.

The lawsuit was filed Monday against Fairfax County Public Schools by the group America First Legal on behalf of the female student.

Among the cited safety concerns, as a result of the district's policies for transgender students, is requiring girls to share restrooms and locker rooms with transgender students.

The suit also cites the student being required to use "preferred pronouns" that "forces her to lie" about the biological reality of sex, according to The Washington Examiner.

“Fairfax County Public Schools appears to believe that its policies and regulations can override the Virginia Constitution’s protections for religious beliefs, speech, and from government discrimination on the basis of sex and religious beliefs," Ian Prior, America First Legal's senior adviser, told the newspaper. 

The complaint names the student only as "Jane Doe," and states she is Catholic.

The school district did not respond to the newspaper's request for comment.
