D.C. mayor orders gigantic 'Black Lives Matter' painted on city street near White House
She also changed the name of the local street to 'Black Lives Matter Plaza.'
Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser on Friday ordered a gigantic "Black Lives Matter" display painted on a city street near the White House, a stretch of road she subsequently renamed "Black Lives Matter Plaza."
The painted words – stretching the width of the street and executed in bright yellow lettering – cover most of two city blocks in downtown Washington.
Bowser later tweeted that "the section of 16th street in front of the White House is now officially 'Black Lives Matter Plaza'."
The White House's official address still remains on Pennsylvania Avenue.
