California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom is offering to work with President Donald Trump to create a federal film tax credit program worth at least $7.5 billion to increase domestic film production.

Newsom's offer came Monday after Trump called for a 100% tariff on foreign films.

“The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death. Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States,” Trump wrote Sunday on TRUTH Social. “WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!”

Newsom said California wants to bring more film production to the state as that's what it's best known for.

“America continues to be a film powerhouse, and California is all in to bring more production here,” Newsom said in a statement, according to The Washington Post.

The White House as of Tuesday has yet to respond to Newsom's offer.
