CIA presents sweeping 'buyout' offer to its workforce to bring agency in line with Trump: Report
Trump's Office of Personnel Management's offer went to all federal employees except military personnel, those who work in national security and immigration, and postal workers.
The CIA on Tuesday sent its own buyout option to its entire workforce, which mimics the buyout option sent to federal employees by President Donald Trump's administration last week, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Both buyout offers give the employees eight months of pay and benefits in exchange for their resignations. Federal employees under Trump's buyout offers have until Feb. 6 to accept the deal, but it is not clear if the CIA workforce will have the same.
Trump's Office of Personnel Management's offer went to all federal employees except military personnel, those who work in national security and immigration, and postal workers. So far more than 20,000 workers have accepted the OPM's deal.
The CIA's deal makes it the first intelligence agency to offer a buyout, and was made to bring the agency more in line with Trump’s priorities, such as focusing on combating drug cartels and countering China.
New CIA Director John Ratcliffe previously asked the Trump administration to extend its offer to the spy agency in hopes of bringing renewed energy to its workforce, according to the New York Post.
“Director Ratcliffe is moving swiftly to ensure the CIA workforce is responsive to the Administration’s national security priorities,” a CIA spokesperson told the outlet. “These moves are part of a holistic strategy to infuse the Agency with renewed energy, provide opportunities for rising leaders to emerge, and better position the CIA to deliver on its mission.”
