Former FBI assistant director says the bureau has lost public trust and confidence from Americans

Former FBI Deputy Assistant Director Scott Nelson says that the public trust in the FBI is gone with all the recent controversies and politicization. 

"The FBI has always required and been grateful for public support and trust and confidence," Scott said on the Tuesday edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "That's not the case today. Our polls show that 60% of Americans question how these things are being done by the FBI."

A poll published last week by Rasmussen Reports found that 60% of likely U.S. voters believe that the FBI was involved in covering up the Biden family's alleged crimes.

The poll also found the FBI's favorability rating has fallen underwater for the first time. Only 44% of likely voters said they had a favorable view of the bureau, down from 60% in 2018. Independents also held a harsh view with only 36% viewing the bureau in a favorable light.

"We see a lot of observations where it seems like things are being clouded and overlooked and conveniently put into a narrative that really isn't believable," Scott said. "And, as a result of that, I think the public has lost trust and confidence. As FBI agents, we'd like to see that rebuilt."

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan is among Republican lawmakers and others who also argued the FBI and Justice Department operate on a "two-tier" justice system – one that appears to allow Democrats to go unchecked and another that's fixated on trying to ensnare Republicans, including former President Trump, who was the focal point of the Russia collusion probe.
