House GOP to vote on resolution creating task force to investigate assassination attempt on Trump

House Republicans are scheduled to vote this week on legislation that would establish a task force to investigate the assassination attempt on former President Trump at his outdoor rally in Butler, Pa.
Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Pa., is the lead sponsor of the resolution, titled, the "Establishing the Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump." The panel which would have six Republicans and five Democrats serving on the panel.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., is supporting the resolution.
"The idea of a task force is that we can have sort of a precision group or unit that goes to work on this immediately. It'll be bipartisan and will have subpoena authority. I think that's going to be very important to get the answers as quickly as possible," Johnson said on Thursday.
President Biden ordered an independent review of the security situation at the rally. The Department of Homeland Security announced members of the panel on Sunday.
