Rep. Glenn Grothman slams Homeland Secretary Mayorkas' statements about FEMA lacking funds

Congressman Glenn Grothman, R-Wis., on Tuesday slammed Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for saying the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is out of money when billions are still unspent. 

"The only way we're going to get rid of him is having a different president, and hopefully he's in his final three months," Grothman said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. 

Last week, Mayorkas announced that FEMA doesn't have enough funds to last through hurricane season.

However, a recent report from the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General indicated that FEMA still has billions of dollars in unused funds.

The report stated that FEMA extended programs with $7 billion in unliquidated funds “that could potentially be returned to the [Disaster Relief Fund]," according to The Washington Times.

Grothman went on to criticize Mayorkas for not caring about states impacted by the hurricanes or the southern border.

"People are dying, people's houses are being wiped out and instead, we're sitting on money and not spending it," Grothman said.
