Stefanik becomes latest top Republican to back Biden impeachment inquiry
Stefanik said the House is focusing on illegal money laundering and deals allegedly benefiting nearly 20 Biden family members.
House Republican Conference chair Elise Stefanik of New York on Thursday became the latest top GOP lawmaker to support opening an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
When asked on FOX Business' "Mornings with Maria" about whether she would support opening a potential impeachment inquiry, Stefanik said: "Oh, absolutely. I'm in conversations with Speaker McCarthy and all of our members."
She also said an impeachment inquiry would allow Congress to gather all of the facts.
"We know this White House, this Department of Justice, they are trying to cover up for Hunter Biden and ultimately Joe Biden," Stefanik said just one day after a judge rejected the first son's plea deal with the Justice Department over concerns about the constitutionality of the agreement.
Stefanik said the House is focusing on illegal money laundering and deals allegedly benefiting nearly 20 Biden family members.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said earlier this week that he thinks the House's investigation of Biden will lead to an impeachment inquiry.
Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, on Wednesday told reporters that McCarthy "wants to make sure that we have actual grounds in order to impeach a president before we move forward."
The potential inquiry comes after Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, urged the House last month to look into impeaching the president.
Other GOP members of the House who have pushed for at least exploring an impeachment investigation against Biden include Greg Steube of Florida, Ralph Norman of South Carolina, Brian Babin of Texas, Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.
