Former bodyguard for Rep. Crockett fatally shot by Dallas police: report
Police said the incident occurred late on Wednesday night when officers attempted to locate a suspect who had an active warrant for allegedly impersonating a police officer.
A man fatally shot by Dallas police during an armed standoff this week had worked as a security guard for Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, according to sources cited in a local Fox report.
Police said the incident occurred late on Thursday when officers attempted to locate a suspect who had an active warrant for allegedly impersonating a police officer. Investigators tracked the man to a parking garage at Children’s Health hospital in Dallas.
Authorities said the suspect barricaded himself inside a vehicle inside the garage as officers attempted to take him into custody, the local Fox reported.
During the confrontation, the man eventually exited the vehicle but pointed a firearm toward officers, prompting police to open fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Law enforcement sources told local media the man had previously served as a longtime security guard for Crockett, who recently ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate in Texas.
Officials have not publicly released the suspect’s name and Crockett’s office has not yet commented on the situation.
Several local news outlets have identified him as Mike King.
