Boulder shooter suspect reportedly passed a background check prior to obtaining firearm

The alleged gunman who committed the mass shooting in Boulder earlier this week reportedly passed a background check prior to obtaining the firearm used to carry out the crime.

A statement from the Eagles Nest Armory in Arvada, Colorado, posted on the store’s front door, claimed that the proprietors work to ensure "every sale that occurs at our shop is lawful." 

"Regarding the firearm in question," the statement continued, "a background check of the purchaser was conducted as required by Colorado law and approval for the sale was provided by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation."

"We have and will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement as their investigation continues," the message added. 

Data show that the perpetrators of mass shootings overwhelmingly pass background checks prior to purchasing their guns.
