Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser told Just the News that she sees Vice President Kamala Harris, the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, as a strong ally for making Washington D.C. a state.

Bowser, who appeared at a "51 Stars" event at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday, said statehood for D.C. should be part of Harris' 100 day agenda if she has a Democratic-controlled Congress.

"That's what we have to deliver for her. We have to deliver a Democratic House, a Democratic Senate, and we have to keep focused on our democracy agenda that includes the John Lewis Voting Act, D.C. statehood and filibuster reform," she said.

On the convention floor, Bowser touched on D.C. statehood.

“We know Kamala Harris will fight for our freedom, and we will work together to make Washington, D.C., the 51st state,” Bowser announced to a cheering crowd before casting the District’s 51 votes for Harris," she said during the roll call on Wednesday.
