Deputy NYC mayor for public safety becomes fifth top Adams admin. official to resign in last month

Philip Banks, deputy New York City mayor for public safety has become the latest senior official to resign as the fallout from the indictment of embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams continues.

Adams said on Monday that he’s accepted Banks' resignation, telling a local news station that Banks indicted “he wants to transition to some other things” and “doesn’t want this to be a constant burden on the work that we’re doing in the city.” 

According to the Associated Press, federal agents seized devices from top officials in the city government, including Adams, Banks and his brother, schools chancellor David Banks, who also has resigned from his position, as part of their investigation that led to Adams' indictment.

So far, five top administration officials have left in the last 30 days. Adams has said he will not resign.
