Divers recovered the bodies of two victims of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse from a sunken pickup truck on Wednesday morning, authorities confirmed.
The container ship Dali collided with one of the bridge's main columns around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, bringing down the entire structure. The ship reported losing power before the collision, though the cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
The remains of Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, 35, and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, 26, were found in the submerged vehicle, Politico reported. Other vehicles, however, remain inaccessible.
"Based on sonar scans, we firmly believe the vehicles are encased in the superstructure and concrete that we tragically saw come down," said Maryland State Police Col. Roland Butler.
President Joe Biden has vowed that the federal government would fund the reconstruction of the bridge, which spanned the access point to Baltimore harbor.
"We're going to get it up and running again as soon as possible," he said Tuesday.
