Eleven firefighters hurt in Los Angeles blaze that included an explosion
All 11 are expected to survive.
Eleven firefighters are expected to survive after being injured on Saturday during a Los Angeles blaze that caused an explosion.
Los Angeles Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas said that a firefighter told him that while inside a burning building he ordered an evacuation because he could tell there was something wrong.
As the evacuation started there was what Chief Terrazas said was an "explosion or flashover."
"Another eyewitness account is that our firefighters came down the aerial ladder from the roof with their turnout coats on fire," the chief said.
"You can see firefighters' equipment that suffered some signifiant damage," Captain for Los Angeles City Fire Department, Erik Scott, noted.
"The name on the front of the business, and I can't tell you for sure if it occurred in that business, but it appears that it's closely related because the building is separated, but it's also part of the same structure," the chief said. "But the name in front is SmokeTokes Wholesale Distribution. There is butane in that building. We saw butane outside in the street. But we do not know anything more specific than that at this time."
The company website describes itself as "an international distributor and wholesaler of smoking and vaping products."
