Fort Lauderdale becomes spring break haven after Miami Beach implements curfew, arrests 250 partiers
Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis has been welcoming visitors while Miami Beach has had a curfew.
Fort Lauderdale saw an influx of spring break crowds after Miami Beach instituted a three-night curfew following more than 250 arrests of Florida partiers.
Miami Beach instituted a three-day midnight curfew that lasted through the weekend and expired at 6 a.m. on Monday.
The city's curfew was upheld after three nightclubs in the neighborhood of South Beach attempted to challenge it in court. Judge David Miller on Saturday denied the challenge, determining that the curfew did not result in irreparable harm, per CBS News.
Miami Beach implemented the curfew after larger crowds gathered Thursday evening, which was overshadowed by last year's spring break chaos, which included two deadly shootings and nearly 500 arrests.
Additionally, from March 1 to March 16, Miami Beach police arrested 256 people in spring break-related incidents, Miami Beach Police Department spokesperson Christopher Bess said, the New York Post reported.
Rather than deal with the curfew, many spring break partiers appear to have headed north to Fort Lauderdale, according to Local 10 News.
Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis has been welcoming visitors.
