Lazy river chlorine spill leaves 12 people, including children, in need of medical treatment
Of the 12 people transported from the scene for medical treatment, at least seven were children.
Over-chlorination in a lazy river in Texas appears to have caused 12 people, including children, to need medical attention, according to the Houston Fire Department.
Fire officials responded shortly before 5 p.m. local time Saturday to "a report of a chlorine spill with possible accidental ingestion in [the] lazy river pool area" at Club Westside, a private Houston sports club, the fire department said on Twitter.
Of the 12 people transported from the scene for medical treatment, at least seven were children.
Houston Fire Department Chief Samuel Pena tweeted Saturday evening that the scene is under control and the cause "appears to be an over-chlorination of the pool(s)," which he says can "provoke asthma, nausea, skin & eye irritation."
The conditions of those who were affected are unclear.
