Liberal Michigan college town removes hundreds of neighborhood watch signs to be more inclusive
The signs were removed this week, after town officials voted in favor on their removal in December 2025.
The city council for Ann Arbor, Michigan, home to the University of Michigan, this week removed neighborhood watch signs after having found them to encourage racial profiling.
The Council voted unanimously in December to remove the signs, which cost the town $18,000 to dispose of them, The New York Posted reported Thursday.
"Frankly, neighborhood watch signs are expressions of exclusion, and they’re inconsistent with our values,” Mayor Christopher Taylor said in a video the town posted on Facebook. Taylor added that Ann Arbor doesn't want to push people away.
More than 600 of the signs were removed.
