The suspect died in the bombing. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill said at a news conference on Thursday that the suspect was found with a gunshot wound to the head, which he said occurred before the Cybertuck detonating. Police said the wound appeared to be self-inflicted.
The FBI said on Thursday that it's Denver office as well as the Denver Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Colorado Springs Police Department were conducting" law enforcement activity at a residential address in Colorado Springs." The agency did not provide further details.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company investigated the incident and the vehicle did not explode due to a malfunction.
"We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself. All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion," Musk wrote on X.
