Bass said in media interview during LA mayor campaign wouldn't travel abroad, but did amid fires
When the wildfires began spreading in Los Angeles, Bass was on a trip to Ghana.
While Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass originally made a promise not to travel abroad in her position, she was in Ghana when the wildfires broke out in Los Angeles and prompted evacuations.
“Not only would I of course live here [in Los Angeles], but I also would not travel internationally — the only places I would go would be DC, Sacramento, San Francisco and New York, in relation to LA," Bass said in a 2021 interview with The New York Times.
When the wildfires began spreading in Los Angeles, Bass was on a trip to Ghana for the inauguration of the country's 14th president.
Wildfires erupted in Southern California last week, resulting in thousands of people having to flee their homes and multiple structures being completely destroyed. The death toll has reached 24 as of press time.
Bass has also travelled to Mexico once and France three times during her time as mayor, The Washington Examiner reported.
Some conservatives online have called for Bass and California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom to resign.
