A manhunt is underway for a man who allegedly shot at U.S. Border Patrol agents on Saturday in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood during an immigration operation.

A black Jeep suddenly sped away after its driver allegedly opened fire at federal immigration officers executing an enforcement action, according to Fox News.

As the vehicle fled, bystanders threw paint cans and bricks at federal vehicles, and law enforcement deployed a flash-bang device amid a crowd that had surrounded the scene for several blocks. 

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, this type of confrontation exemplifies a growing trend of violence and obstruction directed at federal agents. 

City Alderman Alderman Michael Rodriguez publicly accused the federal agents of unlawful conduct, saying their presence had created fear and chaos in the community. The Chicago Police Department cleared the scene after being called in for backup.
