The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department placed seven of its officers on "administrative assignment" as the Tennessee city's mayor ordered a probe into leaked pages of the manifesto of Audrey Hale, who killed six people when opening fire earlier this year on a private Christian school.

The administrative assignment is "absolutely non-punitive," the police department said Thursday, according to The HillThe officers are not being named publicly, and the assignment is meant to "protect the integrity of the active, progressing investigation," the agency also said.

After conservative media host Steven Crowder first published the leaked images of the notebook on Monday, Nashville Police Chief John Drake said: "I am greatly disturbed by today’s unauthorized release of three pages of writings from the Covenant shooter. This police department is extremely serious about the investigation to identify the person responsible."

Hale, a 28-year-old biological female who reportedly identified as transgender, died at the scene of the shooting.

The contents of the manifesto have been the subject of an ongoing lawsuit brought by The Tennessee Star.
