Trump gained ground in New Jersey, stunning Democrats and analysts
"I was surprised it wasn't more red," one resident told a local Fox News station.
President-elect Donald Trump flipped three counties in the state of New Jersey, including the long time Democratic stronghold of Passaic.
Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris won the Garden State with 51.5% of the vote while Trump took 46.5%.
Passaic County has one of the largest Hispanic populations in New Jersey, as well as a substantial Muslim population. The county traditionally votes blue but this year it shifted red.
"I was surprised it wasn't more red," one resident told a local Fox News station.
Political analysts were surprised by the election results, especially Passaic County as the area has always been reliable for Democrats.
"The margin in 2020 in New Jersey was 17-ish points. This year it's 5-ish. It's hard not to be sober about that and reflect," New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said.
