Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao faces recall as crime worsens in city

Oakland residents are attempting to recall Democrat Mayor Sheng Thao in the November elections, amid increasing crime in the Bay Area city.

The effort has over 25,000-signatures, which is enough to get the recall on the ballot, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The city clerk’s office has reportedly verified 40,000 signatures.

Violent crime increased in Oakland throughout 2023. Criminal activity has continued to rise in 2024, according to local news reports.
