Protesters target Milwaukee alderman's home after he criticizes 'Defund the Police' mural
The writing was later altered to read 'Defend the Police.'
A Milwaukee, Wisconsin alderman says his home was targeted for protests after he publicly criticized a "Defund the Police" installation in the city's downtown.
Bob Donovan on Thursday posted an image of the massive slogan—written on a city street in huge letters—with a blue line crossed through it. "Fixed it for you, folks!" he wrote on Facebook.
He later posted images of what he said were protest slogans scrawled in chalk outside of his house. "Protesters visited my home last night," he wrote. "They screamed and shouted, ranted and raved, disrupted my neighborhood, inconvenienced my neighbors, graffitied my sidewalk and intimidated my wife and daughter."
"I must say it's a very sad day when a private citizen cannot exercise his first amendment rights without being confronted with this nonsense," he said, adding that he "thank[ed] the Milwaukee Police Department for their great response."
The mural itself was later altered by protesters who edited the "defund" so that the painting declared: "Defend the Police."
