CIA warns staff against political social media posts after senior official shares pro-Palestine post

The CIA warned employees against sharing political messages on social media after a senior official posted a pro-Palestine image on Facebook two weeks after Hamas attacked Israel. 

Amy McFadden, the agency's associate deputy director for analysis, changed her Facebook banner image to a picture of a man waving a Palestinian flag on Oct. 21, the CIA confirmed to The Washington Free Beacon on Tuesday.

McFadden was not named in the original Financial Times report about her post.

McFadden also posted a selfie on Facebook with the caption "Free Palestine," but a person familiar with the image said it was posted years ago. The person also said she has made posts condemning antisemitism.

The official previously oversaw the production of the President's Daily Brief, a highly classified intelligence compilation. 

"CIA officers are committed to analytic objectivity, which is at the core of what we do as an agency. CIA officers may have personal views, but this does not lessen their — or CIA’s — commitment to unbiased analysis," the CIA told the Times. 

The CIA sent out an internal email after the story Tuesday warning employees against making online political messages.

A U.S. official told NBC News that the email was "simply a reminder of existing policy."

The report comes amid dissent within the Biden administration regarding its stance on Israel after Hamas terrorists invaded the country on Oct. 7, killing about 1,200 people, including more than 30 U.S. citizens.
