District of Columbia and Secret Service officials have assembled a massive security detail for next week's Inauguration Day, bringing 4,7000 additional police officers to the nation's capital and putting about 30 miles of overhead fence in and around the city.

Mayor Muriel Bowser said at a press conference Monday on heightened security that "high visibility patrols" will also be deployed throughout the city, which will serve as a crime deterrent.

Officials began putting up fencing and concrete barriers ahead of the four-year anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill riot and the state funeral for former President Jimmy Carter three days later.

U.S. Secret Service special agent Matt McCool said all inauguration attendees will undergo screening and that designated checkpoints will be set up for members of the public attending the inauguration, according to Fox 5.

In addition, 7,800 National Guard members from across the U.S. will be deployed in the city including 200 from Mississippi.

Additional support for President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration will include soldiers and airmen from the 112th Military Police Battalion, the 172nd Airlift Wing and the 186th Air Refueling Wing, according to local media.

Police in Arlington County, Virginia, adjacent to the city, will be flying police drones over D.C. airspace as an additional security measure.
