Pro-Palestine demonstrators attack Israeli soccer fans in Amsterdam: video
Dutch authorities estimated that 10 people were injured, but the extent of the injuries is not clear, and the Israeli Foreign ministry has urged Israeli citizens not to leave their hotels. The Israeli national security council also urged Israelis not to display any Israeli or Jewish symbols.
A group of Israeli soccer fans were reportedly assaulted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators on Thursday, before and during a soccer match between Israel and the local club Ajax in Amsterdam.
Videos of the attacks were posted on social media.
The demonstrators were carrying Palestinian flags and shouting "Free Palestine," according to the Times of Israel. Dutch authorities estimated that 10 people were injured, but the extent of the injuries is not clear, and the Israeli Foreign ministry has urged Israeli citizens not to leave their hotels.
The Israeli national security council also urged Israelis not to display any Israeli or Jewish symbols.
"We are seeing a pogrom against Jews and Israelis unfold in Amsterdam," Danny Danon, the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, told Fox News. "In 2024. This must stop. ‘Globalize the intifada’ was not just a slogan for these terrorist supporters. I urge the Dutch government to help all Israelis and Jewish people immediately. It’s time to respond with force against these barbaric rioters."
Danon added that the United Nations needs to condemn the antisemitic attack.
New York Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres also condemned the attack in a post to X on Thursday night, stating that the "demonization of Israel" has now led to global outrage and violence.
"The single most monstrous manifestation of antisemitism is a pogrom that is presently unfolding against hundreds of Jews who were cheering on the Tel Aviv Football Club in Amsterdam," Torres wrote. "Those inciting antisemitism now have the blood of a 21st-century pogrom on their hands. The situation is so dire that the Israeli government is dispatching rescue teams for Jews in danger. I am sick to my stomach that a pogrom is happening in the 21st century."
