Saudi Arabia says US embassy has been struck by multiple drones
The drone strikes come after the U.S. and Israel launched missiles at Iran over the weekend, killing the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini and some of his allies.
The Saudi Arabia Ministry of Defense said Monday night that the United States' embassy in its capital of Riyadh was struck by drones, though no casualties have been reported.
The drone strikes come after the U.S. and Israel launched missiles at Iran over the weekend, killing the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini and some of his allies.
"The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh was subjected to an attack by two drones according to initial estimates, resulting in a limited fire and minor material damage to the building," a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense said on X.
The drone strikes also come as the conflict in the Middle East spreads across the region. The State Department has ordered Americans in the Middle East to leave their respective countries immediately amid rising tension.
The United States embassy in Kuwait also warned of looming attacks Monday, warning Americans not to visit the embassy.
"Take cover in your residence on the lowest available floor and away from windows," the embassy said in a security alert. "Do not go outside. The U.S. Embassy in Kuwait urges U.S. citizens in Kuwait to shelter in place, review security plans in the event of an attack, and to stay alert in case of additional future attacks."
