Trump urges Congress to approve $350B for Pentagon as war resumes
Trump has sought the funding to revitalize and rearm the U.S. military after its use of considerable supplies in the Iran war. His latest appeal to Congress comes as the U.S. resumed strikes on Iran this week.
President Donald Trump on Wednesday evening demanded that Congress swiftly approve a $350 billion reconciliation package to assist with overhauling the military as the Iran war resumed.
Trump has sought the funding to revitalize and rearm the U.S. military after its use of considerable supplies in the Iran war. His latest appeal to Congress comes as the U.S. resumed strikes on Iran this week.
"I am hereby calling on Republicans in Congress to IMMEDIATELY advance and pass the forthcoming $350 Billion Reconciliation Bill (Recon 3.0) — which, at the request of our Great Department of War — will include THE SAVE AMERICA ACT as well. No games, no delays, and no weak compromises! Do this ASAP," he posted on Truth Social.
The SAVE America Act is a marquis voter ID bill that has languished in the Senate. Trump has repeatedly floated reforming Senate rules to bypass the 60-vote filibuster threshold, though Senate Majority Leader John Thune has refused to do so. The reconciliation process is a procedural mechanism that allows the Senate to pass legislation with a simple majority, though it typically is limited to budgetary items.
"This is a GENERATIONAL Investment in our Military, even bigger than President Reagan’s! Recon 3.0 is the ONLY path to the full $1.5 TRILLION DOLLAR Military Budget our Warriors need in order to build THE ARSENAL OF FREEDOM," Trump went on. "We will defend the Homeland with the Golden Dome, launch the unstoppable Golden Fleet, dominate the skies with the F-47 and B-21, supercharge our ammunition stockpiles, and achieve total Space Force and Drone Dominance!"
