U.S. border patrol seizes $500K in mixed narcotics at Mexico border

U.S. Customs and Border Protection recently seized more than half a million dollars worth of illegal narcotics "in a single enforcement action" at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry in Texas.

CBP seized methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl from "a male 28-year-old lawful permanent U.S. resident" transiting the Camino Real International Bridge between Mexico and the U.S., according to a CBP press release on Tuesday.

The seizure occurred after a CBP agent referred the man to secondary screening, which uses "a non-intrusive inspection system and CBP canines."

A physical examination revealed "40 packages containing a total of nearly 33 pounds of alleged methamphetamine, two packages containing 2.82 pounds of alleged heroin and six packages containing a total of 8.77 pounds of alleged fentanyl," the release also states. 

CBP estimates the street value of the narcotics at $553,130.

Special agents of Homeland Security Investigations "arrested the driver and initiated a criminal investigation."
