US, UK forces strike Houthi targets in Yemen
U.S. national security advisor Jake Sullivan in December vowed that the White House would respond in the face of mounting Houthi aggression in the Red Sea.
American and British forces on Thursday conducted strikes on Yemeni territory under the control of the Iran-backed Houthi militants, NBC News reported, citing "two U.S. officials."
The Houthis control portions of the control along the Red Sea coast and are one of three primary contenders in the ongoing civil war in that country. The group has made headlines in recent weeks for its harassment of maritime shipping in the critical waterway amid the ongoing Israel-Gaza war.
U.S. Navy warships have, for months, intercepted a litany of missile launches from Yemeni territory as well as drones operated by the group.

"We have made clear that the entire world needs to step up together — not the U.S. alone, but all of us working together — to deal with this — this emerging challenge that the — that the Houthis present, backed by Iran," he said at the time. "We are going to take appropriate action in consultation with others, and we will do so at a time and place of our choosing."
