Massachusetts launches Pride billboard campaign in Florida, Texas
The governor's invitation for new residents comes after Massachusetts lost more than 110,000 residents since the start of the pandemic.
The Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism launched what it calls an "LGBTQIA+ Pride Marketing Campaign" across the conservative states of Florida and Texas.
The billboards and social media advertisements contain the phrase, "Massachusetts: For us all," and are also being displayed in New York and throughout New England, the state announced Monday.
"At a time when other states are misguidedly restricting LGBTQIA+ rights, we are proud to send the message that Massachusetts is a safe, welcoming and inclusive place for all," said Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, a Democrat who is in a same-sex partnership herself. "To anyone considering where they want to live, raise a family, visit or build a business – we want you to join us here in Massachusetts."
The governor's invitation for new residents comes after Massachusetts lost more than 110,000 residents since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report last month from the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation.
Meanwhile, states such as Texas and Florida experienced record population growth during that time.
