Nevada state Assembly passes bill that limits police use of chokeholds
The bill now will go to the state Senate.
Nevada's state Assembly on Saturday passed legislation that would prohibit police use of chokeholds, though the legislation reportedly contains exemptions for self-defense.
Another aspect of the bill would impose a requirement that police intervene if they witness an officer engaging in "unjustified physical force," according to 8 News Now.
The bill now will be sent to the state Senate.
The moves come as national attention has been directed toward issues of policing and race following the May 25 death of George Floyd in Minnesota.
Video of George Floyd, a black man, saying that he could not breathe as a white police officer held his knee on Floyd's neck sparked national outrage.
