California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom says his state will no longer do business with Walgreens Boots Alliance following the  retail-online pharmacy's decision not to sell and mail out an abortion pill in more than a dozen states.

"California won’t be doing business with Walgreens or any company that cowers to the extremists and puts women’s lives at risk," Newsom tweeted Monday. "We’re done."

As of Tuesday morning, the implications of Newsom's edict remained unclear.

Walgreens made the decision to stop selling the pill mifepristone after a group of attorneys general sent the company and competitor CVS a letter stating that selling it would be in violation of the 1873 Comstock Act, according to ABC News

The law makes illegal the sending of contraceptives, substances that induce abortion, pornographic content, sex toys and any written material about these items, the news outlet also reports.
