White House chief of staff Ron Klain was sent a warning after he retweeted a political message on his government Twitter account in violation of the Hatch Act, which prohibits government officials from using their official positions to influence elections.

The Office of Special Counsel sent a memo Wednesday to Klain regarding his May 22, 2022, retweet from the Democratic group, STRIKE PAC, The New York Post reported. "Get your Democrats Deliver merch today!" the tweet said.

The tweet promoted "a partisan political group’s interests" and "constituted a solicitation for political contributions," the special counsel said in the letter.

After he was notified of the complaint, Klein removed the retweet. The ethics office considers the matter closed and no disciplinary action will be pursued.
