Biden orders 'independent review' of security at Trump rally where he was shot
Biden urged the public not to "make assumptions" about the motive of the gunman and allow law enforcement to conduct a full and thorough investigation.
President Biden announced Sunday he's directed an "independent review of the national security" at former President Trump's rally to "assess exactly what happened" and he plans to share the results publicly.
Biden did not specify who will be conducting the independent review but said he plans to speak at length about the overall situation from the Oval Office later on Sunday.
Biden said that he has directed the Secret Service to provide "every resource, capability and protective measure" needed to protect Trump. He also said the Secret Service will review security protocols for the Republican National Convention that starts on Monday.
He urged the public not to "make assumptions" about the motive of the gunman and allow law enforcement to conduct a full and thorough investigation.
Biden also called for "unity" in the aftermath of the incident.
"We must unite as one nation," he said.
