The public can pay their respects to the late President Jimmy Carter while he lays in state at the rotunda on Capitol Hill, as of Tuesday evening.

The public can pay their respects starting at 8:30 p.m. through midnight on Tuesday, and from 7 a.m. Eastern on Wednesday through 7 a.m. Eastern on Thursday.

Former Republican and Democratic lawmakers and White House staff who served during the Carter administration were invited to pay their respects from 7-9 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, according to a military press release.

The late president was honored in a ceremony at the Capitol on Tuesday, where House Speaker Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and Vice President Kamala Harris delivered eulogies and laid wreaths.

The U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club also performed several songs during the ceremony, including the Navy Hymn "Eternal Father, Strong to Save," and "My Country Tis of Thee."

Carter, who died at the age of 100 years last week, will remain at the Capitol until Thursday morning, when he will depart for the Washington National Cathedral for his state funeral.

President Joe Biden is expected to give the eulogy at the state funeral. Former presidents, members of Congress, Supreme Court Justices, and members of Carter's administration are expected to attend. World leaders were also invited to state funeral services, but if the leaders cannot attend they often send ambassadors in their place.

Members of the public who wish to see Carter at the rotunda will need to go through a security screening. A full list of prohibited items can be found here.
